Singapore-based jewellery firm's MD arrested for smuggling diamonds

The Managing Director of a Singapore-based jewellery firm Vihari Poddar was arrested on Sunday on charges of smuggling gold and diamond jewellery. Custom officials claimed that she was hiding the jewellery worth a crore in her underwear

The court has denied her bail and remanded her to judicial custody till August 14. The court will also hear an application for custody by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence that intercepted her at the Mumbai airport.
DRI officials also claimed that Poddar's husband has not replied to their summons and has been untraceable.
